Kate Simcoe
Captain
Kate is a junior from Brookline, Massachusetts. She learned to sail Optis and 420s in North Haven, ME, and lasers in Marblehead, MA. She also raced 420s on her high school team. During the summers, Kate has taught racing at the North Haven Casino Yacht Club, and at the Charles River Sailing Academy in Cambridge, MA. At Michigan, she has enjoyed learning to sail FJs, and competing in dinghy regattas across the Midwest and Northeast!

Jack Homa
Captain
Jack is a sophomore from Centerville, Massachusetts. He grew up sailing Optis and 420s out of Hyannis Yacht Club in Hyannis Massachusetts, where he has spent the last 4 summers teaching intro to race and is taking on a larger role this coming summer. He was a member of his high school sailing team. Jack sails for the dinghy team at Michigan and is looking forward to further developing his abilities along with those around him!

Grace Redner
Sailing Development and Race Chair
Grace is a sophomore from West Bloomfield, Michigan. She grew up sailing a Force 5 recreationally but did not begin sailing competitively until joining the Michigan Sailing Team! Grace competes on the dinghy team at Michigan and is excited to encourage team commitment among new sailors.

Andy is a sophomore from Suffolk Virginia, where he learned to sail on his high school’s team. He is an active member of our dinghy team and is excited to continue improving. His favorite activities include port tacking the start and under-standing laylines.

Sabrina is a sophomore from San Diego, California. She started sailing on her high school’s team during her senior year and now competes with our dinghy team as a crew. She looks forward to developing further as a sailor and is excited to work with the rest of our Board this year.

Piper Fraker
Rec Sports and Travel Chair
Piper is a junior from Plymouth, Michigan. She began sailing a Sunfish in high school, and regularly crewed on various keelboats at North Cape Yacht Club in La Salle, MI. She continues to race keelboats throughout the Great Lakes during the summer. Piper competes primarily on the keelboat team at Michigan, but is looking forward to developing as a dinghy sailor!

Ben Visco
Communications Chair
Ben is a freshman from Wellesley, Massachusetts. He grew up racing Optis, Flying Scots, Lasers, and C420s at Stone Horse Yacht Club in Harwich Port, MA where he now serves as the C420 race coach. Ben primarily competes with the dinghy team as both a skipper and crew but is excited to develop his skills in all disciplines of college sailing!

Keelboat Chair
River is a sophomore from Alpena, Michigan. He grew up sailing at his local sailing school on Optis and Ynglings where he is the current head instructor of the program where his passion for sailing started. In the summers, when River is not teaching, he competes in a variety of keelboat regattas around the Great Lakes including many Bayview to Mackinac races over the years. River mostly sails for our keelboat team while expanding into the world of collegiate dinghy sailing. His favorite activities are Swan 42 Turbos and beating Andy.

Jack Hammett
Initiative Chair
Jack is a junior from New Orleans, Louisiana. He grew up sailing on the Mississippi Gulf Coast in Pass Christian, MS and Lake Pontchartrain in New Orleans. He learned to sail in Optis, 420s, and Flying Scots and was a skipper for his high school sailing team. During the summer, Jack coaches 420s and Optis out of the Southern Yacht Club and sails keelboats, 420s, and Lasers. He is most excited to develop personally as a sailor while welcoming new sailors with a wide range of experience levels to the team!
