THE TEAM
The Michigan Sailing Team is a competitive dinghy and keelboat team within the Midwest Collegiate Sailing Association (MCSA).
Our Organization
The Michigan Sailing Team is a Club Sports team at the University of Michigan. We are a member of the Midwest Collegiate Sailing Association (MCSA), a conference in the Intercollegiate Sailing Association (ICSA). Our sailors compete across the Midwest and on both coasts. We sail in both dinghy and keelboat events, and we compete in both open and women's regattas. Every student at the University of Michigan is welcome to join the Michigan Sailing Team, no experience required. Our program has consistently qualified for a variety of national championship events.
OUR MISSION
Our mission is to provide opportunities for any student to sail while positively representing the University of Michigan across a wide range of competitive sailing events.
TEAM VISION
A close community of sailors with diverse backgrounds and skills who support each other and are competitive on a national level, leveraging both high school sailors and alumni to sustain opportunities.
Practices
Application of skills is essential to our sailors' development. While practices are not mandatory, we encourage our members to attend as many practices as possible to develop skills necessary to compete at the collegiate sailing level. Students looking to join the team are allowed to attend two practices to see if the Michigan Sailing Team is a good fit for them before they are required to pay dues.
WHEN WE PRACTICE
We practice on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 3PM - 7PM. Sailors are expected to attend at least two practices a week, but we work with them to accommodate their academic commitments. Practices begin the first week of school in the fall and continue until early November. Our Spring season begins once the ice melts in March, and it continues until Nationals in May.
WHERE WE PRACTICE & CARPOOLS
Our practices take place at the Michigan Sailing Club on Baseline Lake, located about 30 minutes northwest of Ann Arbor, Michigan. We organize carpools for our team members to get to and from practice. The pick-up locations for carpools are South Quad, Mosher-Jordan Hall, Bursley Hall, and Kerrytown.
OTHER TRAINING OPPORTUNITIES
The team has a training trip during Spring Break, which consists of five full days of sailing and team bonding. Training has previously taken place in St. Petersburg and Miami. Read more about our Spring Break Training here.
